It has been too long….

Well it looks like spring has finally sprung!   We took a drive this weekend over Western Gateway Bridge (by Jumping Jacks) and Freemans Bridge (by the Lighthouse) and it looks like the river is free of ice!!!!

Tentatively docks are scheduled to go in Saturday March 27th.  Once I get more information, about specifics, I will let you know.  We’ll need to have all hands on deck to get the docks in and the boathouse ready for the spring season.

Speaking of spring….  We are wrapping up our 2020 – 2021 winter indoor training season.   There are a couple of weeks left and we have a couple of spots open.  If you are interested in hoping on the erg for a little spring prep, this is a good opportunity.   How you can join us…

Follow the link to the signup genius.  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050D49AAAB23A3F49-2021

Sessions are $10 each.  At the end of the indoor season, I will send you an “invoice”.

We will have a spring season; what it will look like is still to be determined.   If COVID protocols prevent us from rowing Eights right away, we will have to wait until the river conditions allow small boats.  BHRA follows the 90 degree rule of thumb (combined air and water temperatures adding up to 90 degrees before singles and pairs can go on the water). This morning the water temperature at Freemans Bridge was 35!   We also have to consider the river flow.   Generally the spring flow is too high for small boats.   For those that have rowed with us in the spring knows what that means…. You shove away from the dock and you have already floated past the marina before you even take a stroke.

Once I can get a more firm start date for the spring, I’ll send out information.  Generally it has been the second week of April.

What a beautiful, crazy fall morning.

What a beautiful, crazy fall morning. The practice started out with some light fog which seemed to burn off when we got to the Lighthouse. The group made it up to and past the Western Gateway Bridge. On our return home, we were met at the Rail Road Bridge with a group of Nisky Junior Boys setting up for a time trial in singles and a wall of fog!

Monday’s Row (21-Sep)

As of right now, we have one full Quad, one full Four, and two people for a second Four.    If you are interested, please sign up!

The weather forecast looks amazing!   60 sunny with NO WIND!   I am guessing with perfect weather conditions, we won’t be the only ones on the water.  I can see a lot of people trying to get one last outing in; so I am going to guess it’s going to be busy!

For visibility sake, please wear something bright.  If you’re wearing dark clothing, you tend to blend into the background and are hard to see.   No ninja rowing!  If you have a headlamp or a blinking light, you may wait to bring it.

I am going to sound like a broken record, but please, please do not park in the lower parking lot.  Only park near the boathouse. If you have any questions about this, please email me.

I have been asked that we show up to not mingle about in front of the bays while we wait for practice to start.  You can hang up your keys, drop off your stuff, but we should not be standing in the bay while the juniors are bringing up equipment.

Lastly, we cannot “hot seat” or go on the docks while the Juniors are there.  Last Wednesday was way too chaotic, groups were getting way too close to each other.

Part of our club’s COVID protocol is to limit the two groups’ contact.
Lastly (for real), if you plan on rowing with us, PLEASE sign up via the signup genius link.  (just don’t show up). Again this part the Masters’ rowing COVID protocol for contact tracing.

Fall Rowing!

Sorry I haven’t posted in awhile. To be honest, I am still trying to figure out the best way to push information out to our group.

So what’s been going on with the BHRA Masters?

Once we were allowed to open the boathouse, a small group has been rowing singles and double on Sunday morning. While not ideal, at least we’re getting on the water.

Fall Rowing

This fall season will look a little different. If you can remember way back to 2019, we used to sign up for a season, pay a flat fee,  show up when we wanted, and made ad hoc lineups….. the good old days.

Based on equipment availability and sunset times, we will vary what we are rowing week to week.   (no blind boats once it starts to get dark)
Sessions will still be every Monday / Wednesday 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm, and Saturdays 8:00 -10:00am starting  Wednesday September 9th to Saturday October 24th.

FEES

This fall will be a pay to play model.   While not ideal for the future financial stability of the program, it does cover the fall operating expenses.
Each session will be $10.  I will keep track how many times you row in the fall and then will “invoice” you at the end of the season.

If you sign up and do not cancel with 24 hours of that practice, you will be charged for that practice.

If a practice is canceled due to weather, you will not be charged.

LINE UPS

For team boats (doubles, fours, and quads, I will NOT be making lines ups)  I will send out the roster of the Masters rowing in the fall.  Please talk amongst yourselves and sign up for boats accordingly.   If you need help, I can assist in trying to facilitate but I would prefer if you did it.  🙂
Once we move into fours, we will be using Junior rowers as coxswains.

SIGNUPS

I will be opening signups on a week to week basis; no later than the Saturday prior to the next week. For example, the week of September 14th will be available by Saturday the 12th.
