Fall Racing – Tentative Schedule

The nights are getting cooler and the days are getting shorter, so you know what that means? Time to start thinking about fall racing.

Below is a very tentative race schedule. You can still continue to row with us, even if you have no intention of racing.

Because the sun will be setting earlier and earlier, we will only be rowing coxed boats on the weekdays in the fall. That means we will focus on bigger boats (fours and eights) for racing.

18 September Head of the Hudson Albany, NY

25 September Tail of the Fish Saratoga, NY

03 October Mohawk Fall Classic Regatta Scotia, NY

Electric City Sprints 2021 – Recap

What an amazing day for racing! Our hosts, Shen Rowing, really lucked out with the weather and they put on a great regatta. Kudos to them!

Congratulations to all those who came out to race and a big thank you to all those who came out to support us. For some of us, it was our first sprint race in a long time, for others it was their first sprint race ever. I know for at least one in our group, it was his first race…. ever!

Oh, if you see Amy S. and/or Steve V. ask them about their experience with Scotia Fried Pigeon. 🙂

Docks are in!!! THANK YOU!

A big thank you to all that showed up and pitched in yesterday!  Docks are in, three launches in the water, and the Boathouse and grounds look amazing.   (photo credit to BHRA President, Brandon Cheely)

We will continue indoor training for at least another week.  So this week we will have a normal Monday, Wednesday, Saturday practice.

On Saturday, there will be no lifting.  If a couple of people want to stick around, we can clean up and get a couple of boats ready to go.

I will try to open up Spring registration this week.  I am still waiting on official approval to row eights.   Fingers crossed we’ll be on the water April 5th.

Busy Weekend!!

Saturday March 27thDocks In

A reminder to our rowing community, we have our annual “docks in day” this Saturday the 27th.

We will need many hands to get all of our docks set up, launches ready, and clean around the outside and inside of the boathouse.

If you’re coming to help with docks, wear something that can get wet! Docks work begins at 9:00am.

If you’re coming to assist with other cleanup and maintenance, that will start at 10:00am. Bring rakes and work gloves if you’d like. We ask that everyone wear a mask, and we will do standard temperature checks like we do with our rowers every day.

Sunday March 28th – Open Boathouse!

There will be an open Boathouse from 1pm to 3pm on Sunday.

If you know anyone (6th grade to 12th grade and all adults), that are interested in rowing, please have them come down!

For our current adult rowers, if you ever wanted to show your friends and family were you send all your time in the summer, here is your chance!

Docks In this weekend!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

Docks in day, Saturday 3/27

Please come down to the boathouse to help!

Tasks include assisting with docks, outdoor clean up such as cleaning garden beds, indoor cleaning and organizing!

For the Masters, time and weather permitting, I would like to get the UMass Lowell and Esperti in slings and perform some mainatince and cleaning.

Many hands make light work.

Let’s get on the water ASAP.

Email or text volunteers@bhrow.com or 518 331 6486 with RSVP.

Any amount of time is welcome, start at 10 am!

It has been too long….

Well it looks like spring has finally sprung!   We took a drive this weekend over Western Gateway Bridge (by Jumping Jacks) and Freemans Bridge (by the Lighthouse) and it looks like the river is free of ice!!!!

Tentatively docks are scheduled to go in Saturday March 27th.  Once I get more information, about specifics, I will let you know.  We’ll need to have all hands on deck to get the docks in and the boathouse ready for the spring season.

Speaking of spring….  We are wrapping up our 2020 – 2021 winter indoor training season.   There are a couple of weeks left and we have a couple of spots open.  If you are interested in hoping on the erg for a little spring prep, this is a good opportunity.   How you can join us…

Follow the link to the signup genius.  https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050D49AAAB23A3F49-2021

Sessions are $10 each.  At the end of the indoor season, I will send you an “invoice”.

We will have a spring season; what it will look like is still to be determined.   If COVID protocols prevent us from rowing Eights right away, we will have to wait until the river conditions allow small boats.  BHRA follows the 90 degree rule of thumb (combined air and water temperatures adding up to 90 degrees before singles and pairs can go on the water). This morning the water temperature at Freemans Bridge was 35!   We also have to consider the river flow.   Generally the spring flow is too high for small boats.   For those that have rowed with us in the spring knows what that means…. You shove away from the dock and you have already floated past the marina before you even take a stroke.

Once I can get a more firm start date for the spring, I’ll send out information.  Generally it has been the second week of April.

What a beautiful, crazy fall morning.

What a beautiful, crazy fall morning. The practice started out with some light fog which seemed to burn off when we got to the Lighthouse. The group made it up to and past the Western Gateway Bridge. On our return home, we were met at the Rail Road Bridge with a group of Nisky Junior Boys setting up for a time trial in singles and a wall of fog!
